Lamplight
Junior Suite with a draped Box King Bed, a spacious living area with a sofa and writing desk and private bathroom
Painted in shades of peacock blue and soft brick, the walls of Lamplight depict a singular and arresting scene: a foiled 19th-century elopement, elegantly and exquisitely stenciled by hand. The junior suite room also features a king-sized box bed, hidden behind curtains and screened by wooden scrolls, as well as a ruffle-skirted sofa, rattan coffee table, and custom-colored rug. Lamplight is inspired by the story of Eustace Ashbee, former vicar of Barrow’s Green, who is said to have been madly in love with Lady Rosemary Ashborne, mistress of Cranbrook Manor. The two were spotted late one light by the Nid River, caught mid-embrace in a beam of lantern light. A week later, the vicar vanished. Some say he left the village in disgrace; others believe the late Lord Ashborne had him interred alive behind the stone walls of the local church. People still report seeing strange lights in the village at night—caused, they say, by the vicar’s ghost, wandering the village with a solitary candle, in search of his lost love.
