Wrapped in warm flaxen basketweave wallpaper and wreathed by a cool blue frieze, The Penny features a king-sized bed, hand-painted wardrobe, and writing desk. This second-floor room also includes a separate seating nook, with a lushly upholstered wingback chair and antique-inspired lamps. The Penny is inspired by the Barrow’s Green Antiquarian Appreciation Society, which stages small collections of curios and artifacts. Some of the Society’s prized objects are donated by patrons like Cecil Plunkett and Lady Ashborne, while others are personal but precious treasures collected by various villagers on their holidays.
